So..just a brief intro since I think it is relevant...Eminem was my favorite artist, period. I had a pretty traumatic life, a lot of isolation and abuse, and Em's music was the only thing I felt I could relate to when I was a teen in the late 90's/early 2000s, I was blown away by the genius of it all.
I had tickets to go see the Anger Management tour in 2005 at a castle in Dublin before he cancelled it.
I think SSLP, MMLP are classics. Eminem show was good but a step down. Encore was great until he pettily replaced half the tracks last minute. After that though...relapse and recovery are utter, forgettable shit to me(fack? really?). MMLP2 was a really nice surprise! I don't think it held up quite as well, and Bad Guy while interesting is no stan.
Then this album came and well...I just feel it is forgettable as well. Em isn't great at being political, and while I appreciate the effort, I think it falls short. The songs with guest stars are almost all forgettable, especially the ones with Pink and Beyonce. Untouchable is interesting but isn't really impressive in any way. For a storyteller as great as Em, it feels like a missed opportunity. I'm still giving it a few listens, and there are still a lot of songs I like...but I would probably rate this album a little below Encore.
